School Stress - Education

Stress is an integral part of our life.  For example, adults have problems with their job, with their family. But not only adults have stress. Children have stress, too. Most children have stress because of school.

To begin with, I would like to tell you about forms of stress.

  1. Short-lived stress. This form of stress makes you find out new things, find answers to difficult questions and so on.
  2. Prolonged stress. This form of stress can develop into psychosis or neurosis. Unfortunately, now pupils face with this form of stress very often.

There are many causes of stress:

  • Family. Family is the important part of a child’s life. Children must love their parents. But sometimes the family is a bad influence on children. Bad treatment of children can be the cause of stress. If parents always argue, scream and shout, of course children see it and it affects their behavior. Children who only have one parent or foster-parents often have problems in school.
  • Teachers.  Angry teachers, who think that their subject is the most important, constitute serious danger to the psychological health of pupils.
  • Change of school. Inclusion in a new school can become a difficult task for the teenager. Often the main problem is other students’ negative attitude toward the child.
  • Lack of friends, the rejection by other teens which results in bullying and fights. These things can lead to personality conflicts and the consequences can be negative.
  • Lack of confidence. Children don’t like losers. These ‘losers’ have low self-confidence. They really think that they are the worst.
  • Technical progress and fast development of science has led to the growth of information in society. Very often teens get lost in these loads of information and are unable to process it.
  • The actual academic load. The working day of the modern school student together with preparation of homework makes up 10-14 hours.
  • The increase in academic load inevitably leads to lack of sleep.  Having no time for rest, teens become more nervous, aggressive and irritable. That may lead to more serious health problems such as by immune and hormonal dysfunctions, weight loss, problems with eyesight.

I had all of these problems and they are hard to overcome, but I try and my parents help me. Now I would like to give you some advice.

How to not get stressed by school?

  1. Find out why or what you are stressed about. Some of the most common causes of stress are homework, grades, bullies, or just school in general.
  2. If your problem is homework you should start with the work for the class you like the least. This helps because often times the classwork you like the least takes you the longest and the most effort.
  3. Don't procrastinate. If you know there is a test coming up, study a little every day. Reviewing material gradually is a lot better than cramming at the last minute. This way you can get a good night's sleep the night before the test, instead of cramming until 4 a.m.
  4. If bad grades get you down realize that it is only one bad grade and that you will get a chance to redeem yourself. If you made stupid mistakes don't get hung up on them, just laugh at yourself and try to remember not make the same mistake next time.
  5. Realize that school itself can be overwhelming. A way to keep everything to do with school (including friends) in order is to prioritize. Getting the most important things out of the way leaves time for fun which keeps your life balanced and keeps you sane.
  6. Eat nutritious, filling meals. Good food helps keep you calm and focused.
  7. Get a good night's sleep. This helps you stay focused and get more done.
  8. Laugh. Finding the humor in small things will help relieve your stress.
  9. Be positive. Focusing on the bad will only keep you down and give you more stress.
  10. As a last resort, consider homeschooling.

School Pressure

School is a place where every child becomes a person. It is a really useful process – to study well together with your classmates because in the future you will need not only the knowledge of Maths, Chemistry or Physics but also some social skills and abilities. By the way it is not as easy as it seems to us. You have to solve lots of problems during these school years. Misunderstanding of teachers, parents’ distrust, quarrels with classmates and friends, hard lessons. This whirlpool really kills children’s nerves; they become more and more stressful and aggressive. However, there are some ways of solving these everyday problems.

The first one is to plan your week days. If you do it, you will know exactly what you have to do and how much free time you have. Lots of children want to be great students and professional dancers (for example) at the same time. It is not  impossible; you just need to do everything in  time and understand your abilities. If you get really tired when the lessons finish, you will be unable to attend some extra classes. It  depends only on you. You should be more organized and get enough sleep to be able to listen carefully. It will really help you at the exams because you will be able to remember some interesting and useful facts.

We also have huge problems in relationships with parents. They always say that all of us are lazy, that we do not help them with the housework even if we do not have enough time or would like to relax a little bit. In my opinion, they simply do not understand our exhausting life. Maybe it is because they think it is the same as their school life some 20-30 years ago when they studied just 5 hours a day and had a lot of free time. By the way, they should be more patient with our stresses. Some children are not able to do homework at home because parents always tell them: do this, do that. It really irritates. If they want us to be successful students, let us not be distracted.

In conclusion, I would like to say that it all depends on us. Actually, there is nothing impossible in the world. If you have true friends and understanding parents, all your problems will be solved.
