Our topic of education covers school violence, access to education, and post-high school education. We chose to cover education because education is an issue that affects students globally, and for that reason, everyone should be aware of current state of things. Education is important because it opens the door to career opportunities and a more intelligent society.

School violence is an important topic to understand as it is becoming more prevalent in our society. Every year the number of school shootings and deaths at school increases significantly. This past year we experienced a school shooting in our community and have seen firsthand the consequences and impacts violence can have on a school and a community.

Post-secondary education is extremely important to anyone at a high school level as admissions processes become more competitive. As a high school junior, I am experiencing firsthand the stressful college search and admissions process.

Access to education is an issue hundreds of countries are facing and needs to be acted on to help women and minorities everywhere attain equal privileges. I have seen firsthand in Kenya the importance of equal access to education in building futures for children in poor areas.

Education reflection: We learned a lot about the problems that students face and what they can do to overcome them. Education was a good thing to focus on because school violence, post high school, and access to education are things that students in every country can relate to. We have learned about the serious lack of education after high school, be that lack of want of it or that they do not have access to it.
